SAN FRANCISCO MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
May 2013
I was thrilled when SFMoMA commissioned me to write a short narrative about an artwork of my choice from their permanent collection, and then to give a public reading in their galleries, next to the chosen work.
I chose a painting by Jim Dine, "Blue Clamp", and the narrative it inspired, "My Jim Dine Valentine" was so much fun to write. And the reading itself was wonderful! A large, warm, and responsive audience in a beautiful venue - I am still beaming. From start to finish, this was an incredibly rewarding project in every sense.
OAKLAND MUSEUM OF CALIFORNIA
December 2013
The Oakland Museum of California commissioned me to write a short story for children inspired by the Bay Bridge Troll in the occasion of his stay there, after the construction of the new Bay Bridge (which was the reason for the demolition of his old home). I then gave two public readings of "Trevlig, the Bay Bridge Troll", which I enjoyed immensely. It is always a great deal of fun to perform for children, and I also had the honor of meeting the artist, Bill Roan, at the readings.
